In this special session on 'Open source software development' we will explore current and future trends associated with both the state-of-the practice and state-of-the art of open source development. This workshop will focus on understanding the impact of Web tools to facilitate the design of complex cooperation systems. Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

  • Establishment of an open source community
  • Practices on developing open source software
  • Practices for maintaining a succesfull project
  • Open source software processes
  • Differences on open source and closed source software
  • Using open source in commercial context
  • Quality aspects in open source software
  • Teaching open source software in academia and industry

Intended AudienceThe goal of the workshop is to bring together interested academics, practitioners, and enthusiasts to discuss topics related to the area of open source software development. The workshop will offer an opportunity for the participants to share experiences and discuss challenges involved in building and maintaining open source communities. The workshop will also identify key research issues and challenges that lie ahead.
